Senior User Experience Designer

Minneapolis

Position Summary

The Senior User Experience Designer will be responsible for developing and documenting the structure of a product, based on UCD research and organization methods. They will define and describe the information relationships and navigation models at the product, screen, and module levels and develop approaches to the categorization and hierarchical structure of content or content types. Senior User Experience Designers will be called upon to collaborate to provide thought leadership and unifying vision for the user experience team and for the company.

Supervision and Leadership

  • Determine a direction and appropriate UCD methods to be used on a project-by-project basis
  • Lead a team of usability, interface, and design professionals to create elegance and clarity for the web
  • Manage individual project allocation and deliverables
  • Estimate hours and timelines across multiple projects
  • Mentor and share experiences throughout the UX team
  • Collaborate to provide thought leadership and unifying vision for the user experience discipline
  • Accurately represent space150’s range of services to the client
  • Develop close, professional working relationships with all of your clients
  • Work closely with client to outline project scope, timing and budget
  • Initiate and prepare project proposals and estimates to present to the client
  • Initiate new project requests and action requests to communicate client information to the team
  • Develop client opportunity plans which include the creative brief, timelines and scope of work
  • Manage client expectations throughout each project, clearly communicating status and next steps
  • Track budgets for costs to date and manage in a proactive manner
  • Review all creative and make sure it is consistent with creative brief objectives
  • Communicate project timeline to client and obtain approvals accordingly
  • Ensure that creative execution is on strategy before reviewing with client
  • Anticipate and assist in client’s approval process gaining client approvals according to the schedule
  • Be present at all internal and external client-related meetings
  • Write meeting notes that clearly document communications and outline next steps with client. Share notes with client as well as space150 team
  • Work with space150 technical team to develop technical specifications and route to client for approval

Core Responsibilities

  • Distill space150 and third party research findings into well-written and concise company best practices for user centered design
  • Develop and conduct usability analyses on client web sites and web applications‚ as well as directing ongoing internal usability research
  • Advocate for the users by bringing your depth of experience and knowledge to bear on all work
  • Develop/write personas and scenarios that positively influence the development process
  • Understand and utilize information architecture best practices and evaluation techniques
  • Utilize with the wider spectrum of standard usability evaluation: interviews, card-sorting, expert review, task analysis, focus groups, prototyping, etc.
  • Support usability testing activities, understand user testing approaches and how to use this information to inform the interaction design
  • Ensure that deadlines are met
  • Proper invoicing and hours reports
  • Attend monthly billing review meetings, determine invoice amount and provide invoice backup if requested by client

New Business Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Director of User Experience, Strategy Team, Account Services (and other teams) to determine project scope, direction, and UX role in proposals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that communicate with clients the value of usability analysis and how user experience design can be put to good use
  • Two or more related work experience in marketing, marketing communications, or related field

Notes

  • 5+ years experience developing interactive products as an Information Architect, Interaction Designer, or User Experience Designer
  • A degree in a related field, such as technical communications, human-computer interaction, library science graphic design, or industrial design
  • Web design experience including: HTML, the capabilities of Web browsers across multiple platforms, and new technologies
  • Stay abreast of advances on the web (both technical and experiential) and look for ways to appropriately integrate these advances into new products
  • Experience with the following: Omnigraffle, Word, Illustrator, Photoshop or other information architectural related software programs
  • 5+ years experience developing digital products, such as websites, mobile applications, or software
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in client services and negotiating business decisions
  • Experience observing user research and translating user research into design decisions
  • Terrific teamwork and collaboration skills
  • 5+ years of experience
  • 4 year degree
