Social Content Series

Mayo Clinic

We turned complex cancer expertise into clear, compelling short-form content that earned (and held) attention.

Creative

Background

Mayo Clinic is world-renowned for medical innovation and expertise, which creates a unique challenge when translating complex clinical information into clear, consumer-facing content—especially in fast-moving digital environments where attention is limited. Collaboration with medical stakeholders, including nearly 20 interviews with clinical experts, ensured both accuracy and clarity.

The Challenge

YouTube and Mayo Clinic are familiar partners, producing trustworthy, branded health content on a platform rife with medical misinformation. But on YouTube Shorts, health stories must be both credible and attention-grabbing just to be seen—an especially high bar for a serious topic like cancer.

Our Approach

We created a YouTube Shorts series, "Need to Know," using simple, audience-first questions and bold animation to make complex cancer topics clear, credible, and attention-grabbing.

Results

The videos became the five most-viewed Shorts on Mayo Clinic's YouTube channel within weeks of launch, generating over 500K views collectively.

The "Need To Know" series featured 18 bite-sized videos covering topics ranging from breast density and lymphoma to advancements in genomics and immunotherapy.
Breast Density
Breast density is a key risk factor for breast cancer. Knowing your density can lead to more effective screenings and earlier detection.
Lymphoma
Your own white blood cells can now be engineered to target and destroy cancer, through a personalized approach to lymphoma treatment called CAR-T cell therapy.
Genomics
Genomics allows researchers and doctors to use an individual's unique genetic map to proactively identify cancer risks and create personalized treatment plans.
For the YouTube Shorts audience, thought-provoking questions were the hook. A simple design system, leveraging Mayo Clinic's iconic blue and warm geometric shapes, was the anchor.
Prostate Cancer
Targeted radioligand therapy acts like a "smart bomb" to identify and destroy advanced prostate cancer cells to improve a patient's quality of life.
Colon Cancer in Young Adults
While colon cancer treatments can impact fertility in younger adults, advancements in genetic testing and IVF provide viable options for patients to preserve their ability to grow their families.
Cancer Vaccines
Researchers are developing cancer vaccines that teach the immune system's T cells to recognize specific tumor antigens, acting like a lighthouse to help the body identify and target cancer for both prevention and treatment.
